AVOID AVIS in JACO AT ALL COSTS!! After noticing some mysterious charges on my card, I decided to visit the JACO office for clarification. Unfortunately, the representative named Michael refused to assist me and insisted that I contact customer service instead. I even asked if he could help me out first, but he outright declined! When I finally reached customer service, they requested my reservation number. I turned to Michael for this information, but once again, he refused to lend a hand. Initially, they quoted me a price of $790, but I was ultimately charged over $1000. They should be able to clarify these discrepancies! To make matters worse, Michael informed me that "this is just how we do business". DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. They may appear friendly and accommodating up front while you're signing the paperwork, but once you've returned the car and they have access to your credit card and bank details, that's when the real charges are taken.

AVOID THIS AVIS RENTAL AT ALL COSTS! THEY ARE DISHONEST And have HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The rep I worked with at this AVIS office is named Michael, and at first, he refused to give me his name. I asked why he wouldn’t provide it, and eventually, he did. Upfront, they quote you a great price and might even add a second driver for free! BUT after they’ve baited you, you sign the paperwork and provide your bank information, and when it’s time to turn the car in, that is when you find they are dishonest about their pricing! When you request an explanation of the charges, they point to their customer service number and tell you that you have to call that number. By the way, the WhatsApp number is listed, but it is invalid. I had to use their phone.

Wonderful rental experience from start to finish. This location is friendly, honest, upfront, and reasonable. The vehicle was great and there were no surprises or hidden charges. It is important to understand the terms and conditions of the rental agreement at the time of reservation to not have surprises. It is a requirement to purchase liability insurance when renting in Costa Rica. The damage waiver is also required unless you have insurance through your credit card issuer. If you are using the insurance through your credit card issuer, you will need a letter from them confirming this. I came prepared so everything went as expected. I will definitely rent from this location again.
