On December 4, 2025, I requested a simple service at BAC: exchanging high‑denomination bills for smaller ones, while keeping the same total amount of ₡100,000 (cien mil colones). To my surprise, the bank applied a ₡5,000 (cinco mil colones) charge for this operation—equivalent to 5% of the total. This fee is unjustified. It was not a currency exchange, nor a financial transaction involving risk or conversion. It was merely the delivery of smaller denominations of the same national currency. According to BAC’s own published regulations and fee schedules, there is no reference to a percentage charge for breaking down bills in colones. I formally requested clarification and review of this charge, including the possibility of reimbursement if it was applied in error. I submitted this request three times, attaching proof of the transaction, yet I have received no response from BAC’s Contraloría de Servicios. The lack of accountability and transparency is unacceptable. A bank should provide clear justification for its fees and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner. BAC has failed to do both. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend BAC for this type of service. If you value fairness, responsiveness, and respect for customers, I advise seeking alternatives.
The outdoor ATM seems safe and works great, although, in my experience, I was only able to withdrawal in bills of 20,000 colones. The ATM is located on the main street side of the building to the right side of the front double glass doors entrance.
Nice new building with lots of parking. The lines can be long sometimes but that's to be expected. The ATM is 24 hours but the service fees are a bit higher then other ATM's.
