Banco de Costa Rica

My account was debited for $369 (180,000 colones) when I attempted to withdraw it from an ATM here, but no cash came out of the machine. This happened on December 4, 2025. Of the two ATMs, it was the machine closer to the bank lobby.

This BCR does not practice a Preference for Seniors, Mother's or Handicap well. You go to the Caja faster by taking a number. I waited nearly 2 hours for one deposit!!! NEVER go on a Monday or Friday! Banco Nacional does a much better job!! This is the worst BCR I've been to in ten years living here! We definitely do NOT recommend it!

Usually, there's a line outside in the sun and heat. Once inside, the wait can easily be over an hour. Despite a bank with many employees, there are only one or two assisting clients. There is no sense of urgency or respect for the time of customers. Your ability to finally complete your bank business is often dependent on other customers ahead of you leaving for lack of service.
