The spot in La Fortuna for anyone dodging tourist traps — off the beaten path, more of a local haunt, with staff who speak English better than you'd expect. Jesús (Chuz) behind the bar is the reason people come back: he'll read what you're in the mood for and build the right cocktail, and travelers rave about his local creations. The food holds up too — tacos, nachos, ceviche, and a solid guacamole.

We were looking for a place that wasn't a tourist trap and was a place where locals would typically go to. This was one of those spots. Off the beaten path, and a great find. Our bartender Jesús was amazing who always had a perfect recommendation to whatever drink we were thinking of. We also enjoyed a few local cocktails curated by him and I can not say enough about them! The rest of the staff was incredibly friendly, and was extremely attentive to our needs and they all knew English extremely well, even though I didn't expect it being that I figured it would be mostly a local haunt. I can't wait to go back again!!
Loved the place! The staff are so incredibly friendly and hospitable, especially Jesus! He makes amazing cocktails and is super personable and welcoming. We enjoyed every moment we spent at this bar/restaurant. It's a hidden gem! We highly recommend it to all tourists! And the food is great, too! 5 stars for Jesus (Chuz) and Bar Restaurante Valentin's!!!
Bar Valentín is one of the best restaurants in the la fortuna area! Amazing food and the service is amazing! Jesus was an amazing waiter, made us feel so welcome! I would highly recommend this to anybody in the area.
