About
Hosts Lena and Toni turn this small hostel into an experience: impromptu bird-spotting walks around town, night trips to the hot river Rio Jardin, and a rooftop deck with a straight-on volcano view. It's social by design, with a young happy-hour crowd, well-priced tours with professional guides, and everything, town, shops, the club next door, within walking distance. Say hi to Chico the resident cat.

This place was great! Very clean, excellent views of the volcano, easy access to town, shops, food, bars, etc. The staff was super friendly and made me feel like family right away. I was only here for one full day, but I would have loved to stay longer. I went on a tour to the waterfall with Keenan, he was a great tour guide. He even brought along a telescope to see some of the wildlife in the trees. At night Lena took a bunch of us to the hot springs which was the perfect way to end my stay in La Fortuna. I travel solo a lot and some places can get boring; here I was never bored and it was relaxing at the same time. For such a short stay I feel like I made some lifelong friends here. 5 stars! Highly recommend!
Blackout Hostel is a great place to stay when visiting La Fortuna. Lena and Toni, the hosts, are very warm, welcoming and accomodating. You will feel right at home. At this hostel you will also meet an interesting mix of multiple other guests, so good conversations are almost guarantueed. The hostel itself accommodates this with multiple social areas to hang out. Crown jewel being the deck on the roof, which allows for an amazing view of the volcano. Lena and Toni know their way around La Fortuna too. Toni took us on an impromptu walk spotting the birds and animals of the area. One night we visited the hot river, Rio Jardin, with Lena, a magical experience. I really appreciate that the hosts really are there and want to interact with their guests. Their staff is just as friendly. Overall Blackout Hostel is a great place if you are up to enjoy your time with nice people around and have a bit of an adventure. Will come back at some point! This one is to you Lena, Toni and Esteban. Thank you for my making my stay with you so enjoyable! Hope to see you again, and greet Chico for me!
A truly lovely stay in La Fortuna. I highly recommend this laid back, cozy and intimate hostel. The beds were comfy and I slept so good in the dorm in the back. It was cool at night, so quiet and comfortable. The views from top deck of the volcano are amazing, the cat Chico is a legend, and Lena, the owner was always present and making sure we're having the best time. She was a great host and the reason I kept extending, so much great info and a great person! I'm so happy I stayed here. Also - it's walking distance to everything, the rope swing, the town, the club next door, you name it.
