Hotel Arenal Xilopalo

An absolute gem of a place. Located next to the mountain skirt, we were welcomed by super friendly staff and a toucan! Rooms are very spacious the whole space gives you such peaceful vibes. We got to start every morning with local coffee and marvelling at all the birds just outside. The hotel is also in a perfect location, a short walk to tons of great restaurants and cafes. The best part though has to go to Armando, one of the staff who offers sloth tours. He shared his immense knowledge about these incredible animals and the local environment. And with his superhero eye sight, we got to enjoy watching four different sloths doing what they do best, hanging out in trees and being adorable. Highly recommend this place and a tour with Armando

Let’s be honest nowadays, some places hide their imperfections behind words like “green” and “eco friendly.” So be prepared: this 3 star hotel doesn’t have hot water in the sink (though you’ll have a hot shower, at least). The interior looks a bit old, kind of barn-style, but it actually grows on you. Just relax, get into the Pura Vida mindset, and you’ll find the place unique and surprisingly charming. Location: Very quiet, right next to the jungle forest. About a 5 min. walk to the town center with plenty of restaurants and activities. Rooms: Clean, spacious, barn-style design. Super accommodating and convenient hotel in La Fortuna! The grounds are so beautiful, with a great view of Arenal Volcano and opportunities for bird watching (some birds that you wouldn’t see on any of the tours or hikes to be honest). Rooms are pretty standard, but serviced well. The biggest shout out goes to Armando however, who helps run the sloth tour and often includes a free night walk on the grounds which are situated close to a slice of rainforest. He helped us photograph and identify so many sloths and other wildlife on the tour and night walk, and even came to get us when he found a red eyed tree frog later in the night. Overall highly recommend this hotel to anyone visit La Fortuna!
