La Cava #2

Wonderful pizza place with a beautiful wine bar and great appetizers. We had the pizza del chef and the antipasto. We also had the Malbec wine and the meal was perfect. The service was very professional and the evening was perfect.

We came across this location by chance as the restaurant we were looking for was no longer in service. Service was quite nice, the waiter and host were very attentive and checked in periodically throughout the meal. It wasn’t a long wait time to order and get drinks, apps etc to our table. Overall scenery is nice in the restaurant itself. I will say the music was ok (westernized and in English), we did feel it took a bit off from the experience (personally we love most things in Spanish to feel immersed in the culture). The table we were sitting in was ok, the chairs were lower in comparison to the table (but we did notice it was only our table, so assuming you sit in another one this won’t be an issue for you). We had the tuna ceviche and tuna tartar. Of the two the tuna tartar was the best. We have sampled several ceviches in town and this one wasn’t our favorite and to be fair most in town use sea bass vs La Cava uses tuna, I think this did make a difference to the freshness. For entrees we went for the parrillada for 2, also was ok. Shrimp and lobster were slightly overcooked and the lobster was topped with cheese (we personally took this off, so can’t say what that combo is like). Of the entire set of meats, the mussels were the best. Comparing this parrillada to other restaurants in the area, I would rate this 3/5. The night before we went to Travesía and the meat texture to La Cava has a significant difference. Now to be fair they seem to special in pizza and Italian-like dishes. We tried going for more typical Costa Rican dishes and with the price in consideration we ate tastier and similar volume foods for less elsewhere. If you’re in a pinch it’s not the worst but I wouldn’t have this in my top 5 of places we’ve tried.

At first it seemed like a strange thing to get pizza in costa rica but this place was recommended by a local amd it did not disappoint. We had the seafood pizza and the Hawaiian pizza and they were both good but the seafood pizza was delicious! Friendly service and a chill atmosphere. The Pina colada was also very tasty
