About
A family-run bed and breakfast where the warmth is the whole point—hosts have waited up for late arrivals and even driven over at 2am with keys. The traditional breakfast draws some of guests' highest praise, the restaurant serves fresh food, and some rooms frame Volcán Arenal. Set expectations on the rooms: they're small, basic, and can be noisy, so it suits budget travelers out exploring all day.

For my stay in La fortuna, I booked this single bed rickety budget hostel because I was supposed to be out and about from 6 am to 8pm. I just needed a place to shower and sleep. I didn't care about all the concerns people raised about the noise, messy furniture, smell, bugs. I spent my budget on tours. Well, not surprisingly, my flight got delayed and instead of reaching at 4pm, I reached there at 2 am the next day. All the negative reviews started to create a melodrama in my brain as I feared of being left out on a street as no hotel would accomodate me at that time. I sent the message to the owner, who assured me to not worry about my stay. Despite living away from the property, they drove at 2 am and gave me the keys, while updating my stay to a larger room with a queen bed. Yes you can hear rain pattering on the fiberglass roof, the restaurant staff tappering in the back, saw a big fat cockroach behind the musty fridge. But you get what you pay for. And honestly, I was accomodated much better than what I booked. I had a clean bed, towels, hot water and a fulfilling breakfast. It was close to every tour company homebase, walking distance to shopping and pharmacies. Thanks so much for your generosity and the great treatment like I am your family! If you want soundproof walls, insect free place, there are 100s of options around La fortuna and Bocaarenal. Please keep that in mind before booking these kind of hostels.
They serve lovely food, but the room they provided me with was very poor. It was tiny, had no warm/hot water and a sink that did not drain well. As they had other rooms available, I was very surprised with what I received. A great shame, as the food I bought in the restaurant was great!!
Spacious room with view of the Volcano. The restaurant nas a good selection of fresh food.
