Hotel Mar Rey

I stayed at this wonderful family owned, boutique hotel and got to know the staff and the owners really well. Incredibly gracious, courteous, and respectful hosts, I received nothing but warm welcomes and enthusiastic five-star hospitality. Wonderful amenities, like massage and a fantastic pool. Outdoor kitchen and barbecue area is a Plus for those of us who like to cook! Located in the heart of downtown Tamarindo, this location makes it incredibly convenient to get anywhere in town. Tamarindo shuttle will drop you off right up the hotel, and take you straight back to the airport. Across the street, my favorite little bistro for breakfast is called Buon Appetito, and it is definitely a must! I stayed for one week the first time, and a month the second time I visited.

When we arrived we were greated by Evelyn, who we would learn later is a fantastic message expert. We asked to see couple rooms that were available she was very accommodating. All the rooms are basic and mostly the same, besides the amount of beds we found out. I'd chatted with Edwin prior to arrival, he was just as nice in person, I asked him so many questions throughout our stay, he smiled and answered me & helped us as needed. Our room was ground level the bed is extremely comfortable (something that we look for in a room that we'll be in for a week or more) The Location is absolutely perfect, nestled in the heart of Tamarindo. (I saw in another review someone said sketchy area- NOT AT ALL) Across the street is not only the beach, but also Waffle Monkey the best breakfast while looking at the ocean waves and listening to the howler monkeys. Just when you think it can't get any better. You discover that Pedro is in the store next too Waffle Monkey. He's a plethora of information. Mar Rey has a wonderful swimming pool. Evelyn will give you a massage 30 - 90 minutes pool side. Yes there are dogs on the property. 2 live here they are a wiener dog & Doberman they're both amazing friendly dogs - we had ZERO issues with them. The property is well maintained, and clean. Sunday night is the only night the street is not busy. So yes. There can be thumping & street noise. Honestly, it didn't bother us at all. We did hear it but we put it aside. We have already booked our trip for March 2026 to come back. Everything is walking distance from Mar Rey. Come enjoy a simple, clean, comfortable stay at Mar Rey

Exactly as advertised. Rooms are clean and so is the pool. The grounds are lush and tidy. Location can’t be beat- beach is less than a minute. A/C works great. Lots of restaurants, bars, shops ect all very close. Will definitely be back!
