About
Owner Andrey and instructors like Sean and André are the reason first-timers here stand up on their very first go — the coaching is patient, detail-focused, and delivered in English, Spanish, or French. Boards are new and sized right, and their chosen break has a sandy bottom, sits walking distance from town, and stays uncrowded with waves friendly to beginners. Families and nervous newbies come out surfing.

Lycans has to be the best surf school in Tamarindo. The owner Andrey is so knowledgeable and so patient. Kevin was wonderful with my youngest. We were so grateful with how safe they were. My two boys had their first lesson and loved it so much we had to take them back the day after for another lesson. I highly recommend this school, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Andrey and staff for making it such a memorable experience!
Andre and Sean took two of my girlfriends and I our for our very first surf lesson and we had a blast! We all got up on our first go! We got up multiple times (and fell multiple times) but they made us feel comfortable and provided such helpful feedback! Would recommend!
Bottom line up front: Sign up and surf with these guys. You won’t regret it. I surfed with Andrey and Mathis for two days while on vacation to Tamarindo. I am a beginner, only surfed on a vacation around 6 years ago before learning from those guys. The instruction was top notch. I progressed immensely in the 3 hours we surfed. Communication was great, both on the water and setting up appointments. They spoke English, Spanish and French well. Their attention to detail on the things I did wrong each ride and instruction on how to fix it was top notch. The small tweaks helped immensely. The surf equipment we used was nice/new and appropriate for my size and skill level. No beat up boards, wrong size board, etc etc. Their choice of break has a sandy bottom, is walking distance from everywhere in tamarindo, is not crowded, easy to find, and is good sized waves for newer surfers. They were accommodating and flexible with booking. It’s clear that they care about their customers, are passionate about coaching surfing, and are ultimately just cool dudes. I was catching and riding probably 95% of green waves by the second session … which is kind of wild for a moderately athletic 40 something year old guy with a dad bod.
