About
A basic, social hostel whose draw is the location and the shared kitchen and hammock-strung common area, where travelers cook together and swap plans - some guests came for two nights and stayed a week. It's walkable to the beach and town yet set back from the loudest of the party. Come expecting simple, no-frills backpacker digs rather than polish.

I initially was going to stay for 2 nights, but ended up adding on twice! A week at Pura Vida Hostel was fun and relaxed. The kitchen was well equipped and was a social area. It was like family cooking together. The common area with the hammocks, chairs and tables was chill and a great gathering place. I enjoyed conversations with the owner, Matts (spelling?). He had helpful hints and great directions. He went above and beyond helping me stay the extra nights. The downside is the same as everywhere I've stayed in Costa Rica-the water gets sometimes shut off at odd times and it's a big inconvenience, but that isn't the fault of the hostel. It was a great stay, I met wonderful people that I keep in touch with and even traveled with! I'd definitely come back! PURA VIDA
Went to this hostel to ask for a dorm bed the grumpy American owner decided to insult me in an provagative tone saying why am I even here tamarindo all because because he got frustrated with me because he thought he was having to tell me twice that there isn’t any space available saying angrily “ didn’t I tell you already there isn’t any space when the second I asked him I was asking if there was dorm bed available which was different then the first time I asked him which was if there was private rooms available. I am tico and Costa Rican looking for accommodation for one night asking to pay for accommodation and I get an American hostel owner who moved here and started a hostel business questioning why am I even tamarindo insinuating that shouldn’t even be here in tamarindo. When it’s pretty obvious that I am here for the same reason everyone else is which is to be traveling and visiting a new place. Ironic that American hostel owner who isn’t even born here is questioning me in a mean rude way what am I even doing here when he is running a hostel where be people pay for accommodation cause they are traveling which is exactly what I was doing and wanting to explore and have experiences. Shame on you hostel owner of pura vida hostel for rudely question why am I here as if it’s your business all because you got frustrated with me and can’t control your emotions.
After emailing that we would be late for our check in we finally arrive. Ran the door bell for over an hour and called the WhatsApp number for assistance with no answer. We were left stranded with no where to sleep that night. Finally at 12:30 the next afternoon we get a message from the owner. He explained that the email on the hostels website is wrong and accepted no fault.
