The Bavarian

We stopped in here twice because we were so excited to find a German restaurant in Costa Rica. The first night we stopped in to find out they had just closed the kitchen, but when we expressed our disappointment over not being able to order the flammkuchen they graciously reopened the kitchen just so we could try the flammkuchen! The flammkuchen was very tasty and the service was quick, helpful and friendly! The second night we stopped in for currywurst and weißwurst with a pretzel, which were okay but not that great. Service was excellent both nights though!

Delicious food and ice cold German beer. The place is spotless. It was a nice change from the typical tacos and margaritas. Get the jaegerschnitzle.

Our dinner started off well, very nice waitress, tasty pretzel while we waited for our food. Then dinner came, and again started off well. The potato salad and wurst were good and my Jager schnitzel was very generous with a crispy coating and good fries. But it was advertised with mushroom gravy, and cost quite a few dollars more than the regular schnitzel. There was a small condiment cup on the plate that had about 1 tablespoon of the "sauce". It was delicious, but all I could do was dip a little of each bite in the sauce just to pick up a little flavor and maybe a tiny bit of mushroom. I still had most of my schnitzel left when I wiped up the last hint of sauce, so I asked if I could get more sauce. The answer was yes - eventually - they brought another tablespoons-worth, this time with three pieces of mushroom in it. But when it was time to pay up, they charged us for that - $4.50!! As much as a side order. This was so short-sighted. Their focus on penny-pinching (are mushrooms and gravy really that expensive?!) at the expense of customer focus turned what could have been a very nice dining experience into at GENEROUS 3.0 rating. I hope it was worth it to them. If that is really how they meant to serve "schnitzel with mushroom gravy", they should do themselves a favor and take it off the menu.
