About
Hotel Las Tortugas is an old-school eco-hotel right on Playa Grande — started as a reserve and still true to it, immersed in nature rather than resort polish. Guests wake to howler monkeys on the beach and rate the sunsets among Costa Rica's best. The restaurant, with cooks slicing everything fresh, gets called the best in town, and there's yoga and massage on site. Owners Tanya and Louis are the heart of it; rooms range from mid-tier to dorm.

Authentically Costa-Rican, cheerful staff, and RIGHT ON the beach. I've spent the last two winter breaks here with my family. It was so good the first time that we had to return again. Those two years were so brilliant, that I decided to bring a yoga retreat group this year. Tanya and Louis, the owners, are gems and made our experience smooth and seamless. And, Las Tortugas is magic. While Costa Rica is being overrun with a bougie, white, american-refined look, this hotel remains true to what it is. It was started as an eco-hotel and has a "reserve" feel to it. You are immersed in nature, directly on the beach. Playa Grande serves, IMO the best sunsets in Costa Rica. There are a range of prices available from more middle range to dorm traveler. The hotel is perfect for families and couples, even singles looking for respite. It is perfect for the traveler that wants to actually stay in Costa Rica not a ubiquitous resort or hotel. The food is the restaurant is unparalleled in the town, and is well worth the wait. You have traditional cooks, slicing and dicing everything super fresh. Come hear the howler monkeys while you take your morning stroll down the beach a few steps from your room.
I had the most magical experience in this hotel. Came with a group, a yoga retreat. The food, the friendliness, the attention, beautiful sunsets, great surfing base, being steps from the beach & only a short ride or walk away from Tamarindo. This place has it all. Highly recommend. Especially great for families. Love love❤️.
Overall a lovely place. We stayed at one of their nearby apartments which is a really cool space but unfortunately the small bed was incredibly uncomfortable and the AC didn't work well so it wasn't the best night of sleep. My parents have also stayed at one of the rooms directly at the hotel and liked it quite a bit. We enjoyed the pool at the hotel and loved the easy beach access! Personally, I was not very impressed by the turtle tour provided by Sr. Jonathon, I thought it was very poorly communicated / organized and over-priced.
