La Tortugas sits right on Playa Grande, so you catch the water and surfers while you eat breakfast up on its shaded terrace — the Gallo Pinto with eggs, plantains, and cheese, or a fruit plate to start. Later, the fish sandwich comes cooked through and the ceviche in a big portion, with a chiliguaro worth ordering. Eat here and you can use the pool; note it's a flight of stairs up to the dining area.

Our breakfast was amazing. The space is so cute, plenty of indoor and outdoor, shaded seating. You do have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the dining area. We had the fruit plate and the Gallo Pinto (their classic breakfast with eggs, rice & beans, plantains, cheese, and salsa & crema). They are situated right alongside of the beach so you get peaks of the water and surfers while you eat. We will happily return.
Our hostess/waitress, Shirley was so pleasant! She taught us a few Spanish phrases. The property is beautiful and just off the Playa Grande beach. The food is delicious and if you eat at the restaurant you can also use their swimming pool. This seems to be the norm at many of the private owned hotels in the area.
My friends and I wanted to grab lunch while at Playa Grande and found Las Tortugas and we could not have been happier. This may have been the best meal we had while in Costa Rica. I shared the fish sandwich (cooked to perfection!) and the ceviche (so delicious and a big portion!). The drinks were huge and so, so good. The wait staff was so friendly and attentive. What a wonderful find!!
