About
A beachfront open-air spot in the middle of tiny Playa del Coco where pelicans circle overhead and the food is honest, local, and fairly priced, think ceviche, a pork skewer, or the catch of the day with a cold beer. Service runs on relaxed tico time and the cooking won't blow your mind, but the unpretentious beach setting and people-watching are the real draw.

“Local Flavour, No Frills, and a Story to Tell” Bar El Ancla is the kind of seaside dive where pelicans literally circle overhead while you eat ,which feels oddly appropriate, given how authentically coastal the whole experience is. The food? Honest, local, and priced right. It won’t blow your mind, but it also won’t upset your stomach, a balance many seaside joints only dream of. Service had a casual, “we’ll get there when we get there” charm, and the atmosphere was delightfully unpretentious, like your uncle’s fishing shack if your uncle also served cold beer and good company. A great one-time stop to soak up the local vibe, swap smiles with real locals, and say you once had lunch with pelicans as your dining companions.
Cute little beach front restaurant in playa del coco. We were there for lunch. Food was ok/average, nothing special. We ordered tacos and got tacitos, mostly I think due to communication. Love the vibe in this little area, but there really isn't much choice for restaurants if you want something on the beach. IG @mistajay1111 for more pics and info
A beautiful find for a morning beer and eventually lunch. I had the pork skewer, my wife had ceviche with shrimp. Very clean, good people watching area in the middle of this tiny playa. Update 2025, another great visit, food was awesome
