El Diablito Mexican Food

This was THE best Mexican food I have had, inclusive of the USA. I was surprised and impressed with everything, from the food, the salsas, the house mezcal, and the decor. I ordered the Plato de Birria which had 5 homemade street tortitas, soft and fresh, on top. Then cheese, and the meat onion and peppers. The flavors were incredible. The 3 salsa that were served were unique as well. One pineapple, another made with tamarindo, and the third was most spicy, all served in little lava rock dishes. I recommend the house tequila, Cascahuin repasado served with lime and a small shot of salt in a mini-lava rock shot. I did also try the house mezcal, el Diablito, which was great ( I am partial to tequila). Highly recommended to try this Restaraunt. I forgot to take picture of my main dish 😳

Just had dinner at El Diablito in Potrero and it was such a great surprise. I’m from Mexico City, so I’m usually a little skeptical about Mexican food outside of Mexico, but this place really does it right. The owner and chef clearly cares a lot about keeping the food authentic. A lot of the ingredients and preparations are done in house so the dishes stay true to how they’re made in Mexico. The tortillas for example are the real deal, not the typical supermarket ones you often get abroad, and you can taste the difference right away. He even prepares things like suadero and longaniza himself since they’re not easy to find here in Costa Rica. That kind of effort really shows. They also have mezcal which is something you don’t see everywhere in CR and definitely adds to the experience. The service was great too, very attentive and you can tell they pay attention to the little details. We had an amazing dinner. As someone from Mexico who loves real authentic Mexican food, I genuinely enjoyed it and would absolutely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.
