About
One of the few places left where you can eat with your feet in the sand, down a dirt road away from the tourist strip. Reviewers say the family catches the fish from their own boat, and it shows: ceviche, fried snapper, calamari and casados that self-described seafood snobs call their best soda meal yet. Cold beer, sunset over the water, and small touches like mosquito repellent brought before you ask. People return, one reviewer three times, another for breakfast the very next morning.

Estero Azul Restaurant is one of the few places that survived the new ordinance requiring businesses to be 100m from the shoreline. Here, you can sit with your feet in the sand and listen to the waves rolling up the beach. The food is excellent — fresh, local cuisine that’s both delicious and authentic. Service is friendly and efficient, and prices are very reasonable for the quality. If you’re in the area, skip the crowded tourist spots and head here instead — you’ll meet locals, enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, and experience Costa Rica the way it should be.
Get the civeche and the fried snapper! Delicious. We’re seafood snobs but this was sooo good. Definitely fresh. We heard the family catches the fish in their own boat that they bring back and serve here. Portions were generous and everything was yummy. Best soda we’ve eaten at so far.
How could you not love this place? On the water…almost. Hidden down a dirt road out of sight, the local vibe is very real. I had the fish ceviche and it was delicious. But it’s as much about the place as it is the food. Postscript. Came back two more times.
