About
The pattern in Condor Lodge reviews: staff who go far beyond the room rate. Guests describe surprise upgrades to full apartments, help planning nights out, a bartender full of Costa Rica history, and views from the pool and balconies good enough for birdwatching. The restaurant serves hearty, authentic Costa Rican food with sunset views. It's an older, simple property — one reviewer found it dated, and the beach is a 15-minute walk — but the people keep earning the five stars.

Terrible place. It is very outdated. I got "upgraded" to an apartment that was on the third floor with no elevator. Parking is a whole mess with different parking areas that aren't clear. A very rude couple complained because I parked in the wrong area. The swimming pool water didn't look very clean. The last straw for me was that the restaurant closes at 7:30 PM, which means if you want to get a decent dinner after that time you probably have to drive 30-40 minutes each way. So I asked for my money back and went to a different hotel in town. The only redeemed quality was the staff that was super nice and understanding.
I loved staying here! We booked a simple room and immediately upon arrival they upgraded us to an incredible apartment. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, balcony, full living room and everything you could need in a kitchen. There was a great view from the balcony for birdwatching. The birding was great around the pool too. It was just about a 15 minute walk to the nearest beach. There were lots of kind locals at that beach. One day on our walk back we saw a howler monkey! But the BEST part of this stay for me was the staff! Yalina and Roni went above and beyond to make us comfortable. One night we wanted to go out and party and Yalina personally showed us around Tamarindo! She does a great job of communicating with guests regardless of language barriers, I saw her talking to someone who spoke German and they had no issues communicating. And Roni is super dependable. Whatever you need, just tell him and he'll make it happen. At first I thought the wifi was a bit lacking, but I figured out it worked perfectly on our balcony and in the lobby. So when I needed to get work done I either sat out on the balcony, in the lobby, or on the couch in the living room right next to the balcony windows. The Condor Lodge is the best place I have ever stayed for the rate I payed. I am planning to go back not even because I need to, I just want to see the staff again and sip pina coladas while relaxing in the wonderful pool.
Ronnie is an amazing bartender and knows so much history about Costa Rica. The food was delicious, drinks yummy, pool so refreshing and incredible views!!
