About
An unassuming spot where everything is homemade and hand-prepared; reviewers say the wait is part of the deal and entirely worth it. The coconut mahi mahi gets called one of the best fish dishes a traveler ever had, the Caribbean jerk chicken beat versions people knew from home, and passion fruit mojitos, surf-and-turf skewers and the typical Costa Rican breakfast round it out. Iguanas keep a polite distance on the property, and the staff make guests feel at home in English or Spanish.

Absolutely delicious, authentic food and such a wonderful experience overall. The people are genuine and welcoming, and the service was excellent. The waiters were incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel right at home. They were also very accommodating and spoke English, which was really appreciated. Everything we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with care. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Guanacaste. We’ll be back for sure!
Papaya is one of my very favorite restaurants in Costa Rica! It’s very unassuming, but the care and love and attention to detail they put into there atmosphere, customer service, food, and drink is really apparent, and very special! We sort of stumbled on this spot, and were blown away by everything..from the sweet Tico atmosphere and the incredibly tasty passion fruit mojitos to the delicious, ahi steak, lobster, even jerk chicken! Everything tasted super fresh and well prepared! Our server and bartender were very friendly and fun! We truly loved everything about it, and it ended up being a favorite based on that one experience alone. That’s really saying something, because we had been eating at all the local favorite “fine dining” restaurants in the area prior. Pura Vida, Papaya Restaurant! Todo estuvo “a cachete”! ;) Que no cambien ninguna cosa! ;) Sure hope I get to go back! 🫡✨🌴
We stopped here for breakfast before going to Playa Conchal and were very pleased. The food was great and everyone was kind. We had the fruit plate & the typical Costa Rican breakfast with eggs, rice & beans, plantains and tortillas. Our meal entertainment included some iguanas on the property, don’t worry they stayed a very safe distance away!
