About
The kitchen is the draw at Zona Azul. Reviewers who eat here praise the food outright — the mushroom gnocchi gets called one of the best things eaten in the area, the vegan ceviche has devotees, the meats are excellent, and the chef will make vegans something special. The setting is a secluded pool-and-cabana deck right off the beach. The catch, repeated across reviews: service can run slow to invisible, and prices sit at resort level.

Pretty much everything that shouldn't go wrong, went wrong. Massively overpriced. We were initially sat in a terrible spot near a service entrance...in a half full restaurant. Then the waiter kept changing. Finally appetizers after 30 minutes of waiting then our mains over an hour later. Except for mine which arrived 15 minutes after that. Lovely sitting there with no food watching the rest of the family eat. Most dishes had some problem such as the totally wrong sides. A small discount was applied to "make up" for the mess. Likewise everything else it was a miss.
Update: We have eaten here many times and it's always delicious! The food was delicious and great service! Everyone is so friendly, we loved it! I recommend the mushroom gnocchi, one of the best things I ate here.
We stayed at the W recently and were so excited to spend time at Zona Azul, and were unfortunately so disappointed. The service was practically non existent - we went twice. First time service was slow, but at least we were able to get a couple of drinks from our lounges. The second time we went we literally sat in a cabana for over 20-min with servers walking around, and no one would take our order or even came by to check in. They had a DJ that day as well, so we were excited to enjoy some time there, but even though we were one of THREE cabanas at the pool we still didn't get any service. We ended up leaving and just going to the WET Deck. That being said, it's a really nice secluded pool & cabana deck right off the beach, with full restaurant to dine in and family-friendly pool if you have kids or teenagers.
