Stayed 2 nights in the 4-bed female dorm and had a good experience. My friend and I ended up having the room to ourselves, and having a private bathroom with a hot shower was amazing. Our favourite part by far was the macaw nest right on the property - such a cool thing to wake up to! Breakfast being included was a nice bonus, and the free laundry facilities were a lifesaver for backpackers. Huge thank you to the kind, attentive staff for making our stay so pleasant. Would definitely recommend!

A great hostel - bathrooms are beautiful with hot showers, best showers I’ve seen in the many Costa Rican hostels I’ve stayed at. Offers free breakfast. Leòn at the front desk is very helpful and so is the British girl, they are both very kind and helped with booking national park tickets for me and my friends. There is a laundry service also and a pool at the nearby hotel you can use.

I would strongly advise against staying here. Our room had visible black mold on the ceilings and walls, and everything felt damp with a strong musty smell. The air quality was so poor that I felt unwell after spending just one night. The property is not maintained and looks run-down and abandoned. This isn’t a case of a place “showing its age," it’s a lack of basic upkeep. The photos posted on Hostelworld and Google are very outdated and do not reflect the current condition at all. Common areas were in very poor condition. The kitchen had garbage and old bottles piling up in corners and was not clean. The so-called “gym” consisted of two very light rusty metal bars and a few small plates, stored in what was clearly being used as a storage area. The upstairs bathroom was disgusting, overflowing garbage, bugs everywhere, and a door that didn’t lock. There was exposed metal wire on the stairs, garbage and old items were scattered throughout the property. Security was also a concern. Bedroom doors do not lock, and anyone can come and go freely. I also noticed signs promoting giveaways and competitions (unfortunately didn't take photos) for reviews, and multiple Hostelworld reviews mentioning receiving free laundry for 5-star ratings. The overall rating does not accurately reflect guests’ real experiences, which is concerning. There were some pros to this place like friendly staff and free breakfast, but they do not outweighs the cons. Not sure why people are saying "you get what you pay for" when this place is priced the same as every other hostel in Costa Rica. This place poses serious hygiene and health concerns and travellers deserve to be aware of its current condition before booking.
