About
Balu is the soda travelers call some of the best Costa Rican cooking in the area — big portions, fresh seafood, and simple flavors that let the fish shine. Vegans do well here, and the fresh juices (mango, mint-and-lemon) get made on the spot. The owner-chef is warm with guests, the menu comes in Spanish and English, and shelves of books from around the world invite you to borrow one.

Best Costa Rican food we’ve had so far. Our hotel front desk recommended this place as his local favorite. Excellent value, big portions, delicious seafood. The flavors were simple and let the freshness of the seafood shine. The owner was super friendly and kind. Would recommend.
Amazing food. Vegans rejoice! There are so many vegan options here. I got the casado and it was so filling, they put avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, beans, plantain, rice and a patty that was so tasty! The fresh juices are incredible. He made it on the spot so it was really wow. I recommend the Mango. Also the mint and lemon was really great 10/10 Great prices too
One of the best meals we have had in the area. Lots of options for vegans. Large portions and variety on the plate. The patacón was fantastic. The owner/chef was friendly and we were served quickly. Menu in Spanish & English. Definitely recommend.
