About
Guiss is really two spots in one quiet downtown Quepos home: mornings (7–10am) it's a traditional breakfast soda serving huevos rancheros with rice, beans, plantains and fresh piña juice; evenings (7–11pm) the same kitchen turns out homemade pizza, nothing frozen. It's run by a mother-and-daughter team who cook with real care and welcome you warmly, mostly in Spanish. Guests came back three mornings running.

This true hidden gem is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in downtown Quepos and is absolutely worth seeking out. In the mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. it operates as a traditional Costa Rican breakfast soda and is one of the very few places in downtown Quepos serving early morning traditional costa rican meals. The kitchen is run with care and love. With an an abuela preparing food the way it’s meant to be made. I believe its a mother and daughter team. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming. While she primarily speaks Spanish she understands some English and we genuinely enjoyed practicing our Spanish with her. It only added to the authenticity and warmth of the experience. We visited three different mornings because the food and hospitality were that amazing. We ordered the huevos rancheros served with a perfectly fried egg rice and beans tortillas plantains and cheese. Every bite was flavorful and cooked to perfection. For vegetarians it is helpful to mention no carne as many traditional local breakfasts may automatically include ham or meat which can easily be omitted when requested. We also ordered fresh blended pina juice and a iced mocha latte blended. Pure perfection! One of the best signs of a great local spot. Is seeing locals stopping in early for their coffee or breakfast. We honestly did not find a better local breakfast soda in Quepos or Manuel Antonio. Even though we were staying in Manuel Antonio we happily made the short ten minute drive each morning because it was so worth it. In the evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The same owner transforms her home into a small pizza spot serving fresh homemade pizza. Nothing is frozen or pre made and you can truly taste the care and pride she puts into her food. Although we are gluten free and were not able to enjoy the pizza. She went out of her way to source fresh gluten free dough and attempted to make a special pizza just for us. When the dough did not settle properly and could not be cooked she was genuinely disappointed and even shared photos to show us she had tried. Her kindness effort and love for cooking left a lasting impression on us. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we sincerely hope more people discover her incredible breakfasts in the morning and her homemade pizzas in the evening.
What a lovely place ! We initially were stopping by to see the stray cats, but quickly discovered what a wonderful breakfast spot. The ladies are kind, and welcoming. The food was flavorful, and good portion size for the price. As other reviews have said, a true hidden gem ! They do breakfast from 7am-10am and pizza at night. If you're in the area definitely check them out ! Muchas gracias !! Today we had the carne en salsa.
