About
Malehu is where Samara goes for pastries and coffee: the almond croissant, macchiato and generous breakfasts (Benny, avocado toast, plenty of fresh fruit) keep travelers coming back morning after morning, across its two locations. The baking rates among the best on many Costa Rica trips. Service can run more polite-and-efficient than warm, but the food is the reason you return.

Very good food and coffee. This was the first place we stopped in town, and we’ve been back three times since. The first morning all five of our family had breakfast. The portions were generous and the breakfast was good. The service wasn’t as warm and friendly as it could have been, but they were polite and attentive. My wife and I love coffee and pastries. We both agreed that have been some of the better that we’ve had in Costa Rica during our two week trip, so we kept coming back. Pura vida!
Malehu seems to serve the best pastries in Samara and follows local trends with generous portions. They do a really good job with both pastries, food and coffee and have a lovely seating area at both of their locations. If you don't mind food that is good but certainly not this good and are traveling on a budget, consider visiting Roots bakery instead. The staff are much friendlier and the prices are better. If you prefer the best food over budget and atmosphere Malehu is the place to be for a gringo style breakfast.
The baked goods and coffee are fantastic! The service / speed is decent but the servers seem genuinely annoyed to have to take your order. I tried to greet the cashiers with a friendly question and my order and sometimes they would just stare at me instead of responding. If you don’t care about service the iced coffee is good! 🤷♀️
