About
At the entrance to town in the Patio Colonial, Roots is Samara's bakery-cafe hub: the warm cinnamon roll is the undisputed champion, with blueberry-lemon scones, breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros and empanadas close behind. There's ample seating, a shaded courtyard and a co-working space upstairs. The baking is consistently loved; service can be hit-or-miss, so go for the pastries first.

It was so delicious that we literally ate here everyday! Couldn’t stray when everything we tried was consistently fabulous. 😋 Trust me…start with the blueberry-lemon scones and go from there. Everyone adores the cinnamon buns, however the scones are an unsung hero. The chicken & bacon salad with honey-mustard dressing…and the breaded chicken burger were also must haves!
Great breakfast burritos. Some options for vegetarians. Croissants are not great. Good coffee. Lots of tables so plenty of room to eat in. Will be back!
I attended a 2 week retreat at Fenix in Samara and went to Roots almost daily. During rainy season it is a good place to write and contemplate (or just relax), for coffee, breakfast, lunch or a snack, with or without friends. You can sit out front and watch the street, inside where it is a little more quiet or inside the courtyard. They are located in the first building as you come into town from Nicoya and there is an air-conditioned, co-working space available upstairs. Parking can be tricky so I recommend street parking or just walking, if you are close. Pura vida!
