Sazon Costarricense, a stand in the open-air Mercadito, turns out what several travelers call the best casado they found in Costa Rica: well-flavored rather than over-salted, with delicious handmade corn tortillas. The owner happily builds proper vegan and vegetarian plates, and the chalupas and fish tacos are standouts. Evenings with live music make it more fun than the typical roadside soda.

Ate lunch here and by far had the best Casado we have found in our almost 2 weeks in Costa Rica. (Having had some Casado daily). Well flavored and not overly salty as most we've had are. Handmade corn tortillas are delicious. Accommodating to our requests for a vegan Casado and put together an excellent meal for us. He actually understood vegans and gave us a full portion of beans with our meals instead of one tiny serving as per usual. We will be going back for lunch tomorrow before we leave the area.
The BEST Casado we've eaten. Great service, super friendly. I want to work my through the menu! Only downside is that I will travel the rest of Costa Rica and maybe never find food as good as this!
Yes yes yes and yes again! We ordered vegetarian casados - not on the menu. As someone who grew up w Costa Rican homemade food but in the US, this is just what I was looking for when visiting Costa Rica. Very little salt, so much fresh flavor - and I am that girl who will get everything portioned onto her plate and the mix it all up. I love it. The fried egg, plátanos (not featured) , gallo pinto, salad, beans (not featured), veggies . Perfecto para mi señor. Pura Vida.
