About
A hillside retreat in the Santa Teresa jungle, where you wake to birds and monkeys yet stay minutes from the beach — and, crucially, it's silent at night, without the truck and motorcycle noise of the main strip. Owner Chakib is famously responsive on WhatsApp, arranging ATVs and excursions. Expect fresh local breakfasts, a clean pool, and crisp A/C. The road up is steep, so most take a taxi in and rent an ATV. Pricey, and guests say worth it.

Staying at Bohemia truly shaped my entire Costa Rica experience. This was my first solo trip, and I’ll be honest ... I was a little nervous at first. What made me choose Bohemia was the team itself. Every time I reached out to the owner, he was always available and incredibly responsive. He answered my questions on WhatsApp within minutes, which gave me a lot of reassurance and confidence before and during the trip. That level of availability genuinely made a difference for me. Bohemia is slightly more expensive than other options, but the value is absolutely worth it. You’re not just paying for a place to stay ; you’re paying for peace of mind. If you need something booked or organized, you simply ask and they take care of it. It allowed me to fully let go, follow the flow, and enjoy the trip without overthinking logistics. The location is excellent ; it's close to the beach, right next to a grocery store, and set in a calm (far from the crowd of the main street), peaceful, and luxurious environment. What I loved most is that Bohemia lets you experience both the beach and the jungle. You wake up to the sound of birds and monkeys, while still being just steps away from the ocean : a truly unique balance. That said, it’s important to know that the road leading to Bohemia is a bit tricky, with a very steep slope. Because of this, I would not recommend arriving by car or motorcycle ; take a taxi to get there and rent an ATV once arrived (which is in my opinion by far the best option). In my case, the owner handled the ATV reservation for me, and the company even brought the ATV directly to the parking lot, which made everything incredibly easy and stress-free. While the area is technically walkable, it becomes tiring over time especially with the heat and the hills. With an ATV, distances are no longer an issue and you gain total freedom to explore. The breakfasts are delicious and feel very authentic. They’re prepared by a local, which really helps you connect with the culture in a meaningful way. Overall, Bohemia offers a peaceful, safe, and effortless experience ; especially if you’re travelling solo for the first time. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a stress-free and deeply enjoyable stay in Costa Rica.
Bohemia Experience is fantastic - this is my SECOND time staying at the hotel and it will not be my last. The rooms, pool, food, Ac, Wifi, and wildlife are unlike anything else you will find in Santa Teresa. Even the towels and bedding smell fresh and lovely. Breakfast is served in the morning, and the kitchen / dining area is always clean and ready to use. Sitting with a fresh juice and looking at the waves break has and will be one of my favorite memories. The pool water is always clean and clear, room AC is always crisp and cold, and the food is so fresh and yummy. You will likely see monkeys, butterflies, kitties, and maybe a dog or two here. There is also wifi in the main area AND separate wifi in the rooms. I have now been in dry and rainy season and both times were equally beautiful. I cannot recommend Bohemia enough as I have also stayed in other places in Santa Teresa, and there is just nothing like it. Something to consider as well if you are choosing between this place and another - places on the main strip are LOUD. This place however is tucked just far enough into the Santa teresa hillside so that at night it is SILENT (except for crickets) - you will hear NO trucks, motorcycles, etc. If you stay anywhere else you will likely hear busy street noises especially during busy season. Additionally, you're only minutes from the beach if you drive down the hill. Although you'll likley want to spend all your time here ;) Thank you Chakib...!! make sure to tell him hi and ask about the best Santa teresa recs, the amazing history of the town / country, and how Bohemia came to be. It is truly the best.
Bohemia was AMAZING. Loved every single person there, want to give a special shoutout to Minnie along with the other ladies that helped us plan all of our excursions and told us all the best places to go! Also want to say thank you to the ladies who made us THE best breakfast every morning. If you are staying here, I highly recommend trying the yoga in the mornings, we had never experienced it and it was the most peaceful way to start our mornings. I would also recommend trying to get an ATV for your stay to make getting around as stress free as possible. This was by far one of the best experiences we’ve had traveling out of country and we will absolutely be coming back.
