Les Roches Paradise retreat

PROS: The view. The view, the view. Daily housekeeping included. CONS: Beds-full sized. Not queen, not king. Full. We ended up sleeping in separate rooms. Plenty of room in the bedroom for a California king. Not sure what they were thinking. Pool was lined with algae, upon request for cleaning they scraped all the algae into the pool and did not shock with cholorine--like it should have been, like ChaptGPT says it must be before getting in. They assured us it was safe. Days later my girlfriend's lymph nodes were so inflamed and sensitive to the touch she could barely move her arms without pain. Management, upon being notified of the situation, said nothing: no apology, nothing. Air conditioning: none in kitchen/living room AND no blinds so it gets blazing hot in the afternoon. Bedroom AC's can't keep up with the afternoon heat so it's hot everywhere: hot in bedrooms and unbearably hot in living room. Both bedroom fans turned on by themselves at random times throughout the night. Both were replaced but we were required to direct workers while attempting to remain professional on professional calls. Stove would make funny sounds while cooking. We were told that's just the way it is. Lights in bedrooms were broken and we had to direct workers what to fix while attempting to remain professional on professional calls. Linens: sheets all had stains of one sort or another on them. Towel too. We asked for towels sans stains and they did provide brand new towels. Didn't even ask for sheets sans stains, was fatigued with all the problems at that point. As good as the views are--and they are stunning, I would not return. Feels like owners are milking views for all they're worth and put zero effort into anything else.

Avoid this place, we stayed at some other amazing places in town which are 5 star compared to this place, they draw you in with inaccurate pictures but was dirty, unsafe and the owners tried to scam more money out of us. If interested the issues we faced are below: - Were asked via whatsapp post a positive review as they are targeted on it but giving an honest review here.. - The pool had dangerous bacteria in it see picture, and gave us a rash, which we witnessed being used to clean tables with, when reported - On arrival a mysterious “6% tax” was requested which we hadn’t encountered anywhere else in Costa Rica or Santa Teresa, once challenged twice, it was interestingly then revoked - the owners seemed to be trying to be devious here - they were also strange about cash or card, wonder if the owner knows they are trying to make more from people? - They don’t mention anywhere on the website that you can’t drink the water (again unlike anywhere else in Costa Rica we have been) you then ask for $30 for water to be changed, despite it costing $4 in the local supermarket - Aggressive dogs from next door tried to enter the apartment several times barking, not safe for children playing, this is not mentioned before we arrive - The water machine didn’t work, leaked all over the kitchen and wasted half the water we just paid for and you then didn’t offer to replace the water - Not that we used it much, but the TV remote didn’t work, you said you would replace it, you didn’t and then told us after that you didn’t have spare and just ignored us, this meant we couldn’t use this facility - No body wash, hand soap or conditioner was provided just a cheap shampoo that looked like it had been left by another guest, you can’t shower with shampoo, not what you expect for the price - Broken furniture in the living room, - The maid only turned up once in 4 days - Rooms were badly furnished, there was only 2 weird chairs outside, no sunloungers, just a bed in each room with nothing else, so was impossible to keep rooms tidy you had to put things on the floor - The whole place was tired and scruffy, the view from the pool was just wastland - Furniture was tired and broken, see pics. In general this like a very sub standard experience compared to the price and vs other really nice places for the same price we stayed in town.

The apartment was beautiful and the view was spectacular, but the communication and the changing payment method on site were not very pleasant and quite confusing, which ended up costing us a lot of time. In addition, the balcony doors could not be locked because two of the four doors had broken locks.
