About
A full-size supermarket in Santa Teresa that locals and visiting families rely on to keep the grocery bill down without giving up the essentials—produce, meats, a frozen section, and a solid wine-and-liquor selection. Prices run cheaper than some nearby stores, and a membership adds discounts if you shop weekly. Small touches stand out: fresh-ground coffee and a shelf of premium chocolate. The lot is a bit tight, with street parking nearby.

Mega Superstore is a solid option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly grocery store in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica while still having access to all the everyday essentials. It’s a place I rely on when I want to stay cost-conscious without sacrificing convenience. The store carries a wide range of fruits and vegetables, boxed and packaged items, as well as multiple aisles dedicated to cleaning products and home supplies. There’s also a frozen foods section and a large selection of wine and alcohol, which is helpful if you’re stocking up for the week or hosting guests. One nice perk is their membership program, which offers additional discounts and definitely adds value if you shop here regularly. Overall, the quality is fair and the pricing is fair, landing right in the moderate range compared to other grocery stores in Santa Teresa. The store is clean, well organized, and the staff are helpful when you need assistance. Parking is generally good, with space for around 10–12 cars in the lot, plus additional street parking outside. While it can be a bit tight if the lot is full, the savings inside make it worthwhile. A couple of thoughtful touches really stand out — they have an area where you can get fresh ground coffee, as well as a selection of premium chocolates, which we were happy to finally find after looking for them for some time. Overall, Mega Superstore is a great choice for local families, visiting families, and anyone shopping in Santa Teresa who wants to remain budget-conscious while still having access to a broad selection of everyday grocery items.
Decent grocery store, but their lights during the night are blinding to the residents of the hill that look down on the store in the evening. We rented a house and it was shining into the bedrooms every evening. And they never turn off though out the night. Even when they close. I hope they figure this out and are able to have less light pollution for such an amazing town.
I notice there are mixed reviews, so as a reminder my review is based on my visits only. We only shopped here because Super Ronny #1 was too busy to find parking. It was quite a surprise to see such a big store in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa. It didn't really fit the vibe, but then the towns are growing rapidly so I guess in a way it does. We had no issues with parking here. The store was clean, well lit, and not super busy. We were able to get lots of excellent quality fruits, veggies, and meats. The pantry products were also plentiful and everything was fairly reasonably priced. The household items like shaving cream, tissues, paper towels, and sunscreen were very expensive. The cashier was very kind, and didn't overcharge us or give incorrect change. They didn't ask for my passport here on any of my visits, whereas at other Mega Supers I was asked. I'd shop here again.
