Tienda Green World

If you told me I was in a slightly tropical crossover episode between Erewhon and the Park Slope Food Coop, I would believe you. Tienda Green World is objectively pricey — no way around it. But also? Kind of amazing. The selection is wild for Santa Teresa. Shelves lined with imported pantry staples, genuinely good ghee, artisan creamy butter, coconut yogurt that doesn’t taste like compromise, plus solid fish and meat options. It’s the kind of place where you go in “just for a few things” and walk out feeling nutritionally superior and financially humbled. Yes, you’ll pay. Yes, you might momentarily question your life choices at checkout. But if you care about clean, high-quality ingredients, this place delivers in a way that feels almost surreal given the beach-town setting. I would come back to Santa Teresa for this store alone. And that’s saying something.

Green World is hands down one of the best grocery stores in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. I shop here at least once a week and consistently rely on it for quality, convenience, and selection. The fresh produce is excellent, and they carry a great mix of healthy snacks, cookies, frozen items, and specialty foods. One of my favorite features is their fresh-pressed juices and the loyalty program — if you buy and return six juice bottles, you get one free, which is such a thoughtful and sustainable touch. They also offer loyalty programs that anyone can sign up for, which makes shopping here even better. The staff are fast, friendly, and always willing to help. I also really appreciate how easy they make things logistically — you can order delivery or have orders prepared in advance for pickup via WhatsApp, which is incredibly convenient when you’re busy or planning ahead. In terms of quality and selection, Green World really stands out. You’ll find plenty of vegan options, bulk dispensers with items like fresh nuts, raisins, spices, and more, as well as a variety of frozen meat options available. There’s also a solid selection of bottled beverages, including kombuchas and other functional drinks. If you’re looking for tofu in Santa Teresa, this is one of the most reliable places to find it. They also carry in-house prepared items like ice cream bars, along with candies, health foods, and specialty products. Beyond food, Green World offers more premium wellness items such as lotions, conditioners, oral care products, herbs, teas, and supplements. The best way to describe it is that Green World feels like a smaller-scale Whole Foods, thoughtfully curated for Santa Teresa. Whether you’re a local, staying long-term, or visiting and want access to high-quality groceries and health-focused products, this is an easy place to rely on and keep coming back to!

This is hands down one of the best grocery stores in Santa Teresa, I might even go as far as to say the best in most of the provinces. We got to town, hit Green World first, and purchased amazing whole chickens, grass fed Skirt & Flank steak, and pork loin chops, as well as great organic produce, PERFECT, delicious eggs, the list goes on.. we did a lot of cooking at our vacation rental for the 3 of us, and it was very gratifying! Edit: After reading other reviews, yes this place is not inexpensive for certain things, but when you’re travelling with a toddler, and you’re trying to eat well, saving time & money from going out to eat, the costs for these high quality items feels very worth it, when every super Mercado has a lot of junk food, less than appetizing carnicerias, Green World is a diamond in the rough and we felt very fortunate to spend our money there!
