We started the canoe tour at 6 pm at Tortuguero Leonardo Tours. Leonardo Fernandez, the owner made the tour. He is very communicative and takes a very informative and interesting tour with us. He speaks English quite well. We are a total of four tourists in a canoe that drives Leonardo with his historic paddle. With us in the canoe has been still a young German couple. Two French people accompany us in a kayak. We cross the large canal and turn into a slightly narrower one, from which again very narrow short channels branch off as a part of Tortuguero National Park. Driving through this is the most interesting. Leonardo explains to us the sounds of the animals and informs about plants and the historic of the National Park. He can imitate and explain all the animal voices and is an enthusiastic tour guide. We see various birds such as the great tiger heron and a caiman as well as large iguanas high up in the trees. He demonstrates in his own body how people used to rub themselves here with clay, which is beneficial against mosquitoes and for health. This tour operator and Leonardo are very recommended by us. After two and a half hours and many photos richer we are back at the pier of Tortuguero.

Very nice canoe boat tour with Marceille Ezechiel. We saw a lot of animals and got good explanations. No hurry during the trip but relaxing and good atmosphere. Thank you!
