About
A small budget hotel one block from the beach — close enough that guests sleep with the windows open to hear the waves — and a five-minute walk from Dominical's restaurants, set just far enough from the center to stay quiet. The shaded tropical garden courtyard draws repeat mentions, some rooms have kitchenettes, and parking is free. Staff are the through-line in the reviews: quick with surf spots, snorkel tips and restaurant recommendations, and easy about room changes. Keep expectations simple, though — the rooms are basic, and while some guests found the beds comfortable, others found them well worn.

Hola! I just got back from Costa Rica and spent 3 nights at Tropical Sands. It felt very safe and the room was comfortable. The mattress felt great and they had good water pressure in the shower. The a/c worked great, but in the evening I would leave the windows open to hear the sounds of the waves, which are only one block away. It is location away from the bustle of the town, but restaurants are only a 5 minute walk away. I'd recommend it for anyone needing a budget friendly accommodation in Dominical.
The staff was lovely, so helpful and kind. The hotel’s courtyard is also really pretty and nicely shaded with lots of trees. The ac worked well, and the rooms were overall decent. We asked to change our room to a room with a kitchen and they were very accommodating. The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is that the mattress was really bad. My partner and I would wake up in pain, and have trouble sleeping. It was saggy and sinking. Additionally, the walls are very thin—our room even had a door connected to the other room. You can hear your neighbors a lot and rather clearly. Ear plugs worked to fix that, but truly the bed was so rough, and I’m saying that as someone who has traveled all over the world and stayed in many different hostels and accommodation. I’m writing this review because I know it would have helped me to know this information.
I stayed at Hotel Tropical Sands for one night and it was a very disappointing experience. The place looks nothing like the photos or the description online. The rooms are extremely outdated, with cheap furnishings and an overall neglected feel that makes the stay far from pleasant. Honestly, the whole place just left me feeling quite down. On top of that, I was woken up at 6 AM by the loud noise of a nearby machine or motor, which made it impossible to rest properly. There is honestly nothing particularly appealing about this property, especially considering the price being charged. The people working there are super helpful yes, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a mediocre place.
