About
A garden hotel on the edge of Dominical, about a fifteen-to-twenty-minute walk from town and close to the Río Barú. Guests come back for the grounds — cabins with open-air porches, mornings full of colorful birds — plus the pool with its poolside bar, an open-air gym, and free breakfast. Repeat visitors describe a resort feel at an affordable price. Fair warning from the reviews: the food is decent rather than memorable, and some rooms are showing their age.

This is my second time at Villas Rio Mar Hotel and there’s so much I still love about it. Besides being surrounded by the most beautiful flora and fauna of the Costa Rican jungle, the staff is also very professional and accommodating. We love the proximity to the beautiful Rio Barú and even the somewhat not gentrified town of Dominical. True, the food is not great but it is good, and the restaurant and poolside bar lend a resort like feel but at a very affordable price. We also love the cabins with their open air porches and privacy. You can wake up every morning to a menagerie of the most delightful and colorful birds. The hotel is also close to many national parks and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I hope to have the opportunity to return here.
Absolutely wonderful stay! The staff was so pleasant and accommodating and the property is amazing. Richard was taking care of us the whole time we were at the pool with food and great drinks. He was fantastic always smiling and happy to help with anything you need. Will definitely be coming back!
Stunning. You could never le a e the property and still feel like you got a true taste of Costrican Culture. Although I u highly suggest getting some surfing lessons with Dominical Surf School and taking a half day out to go see the Fauna at Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary right up the road. (Check of the restaurant thats up there too if onky too take in the amazing 360° views of the mountains and beaches and oceans and will toucan flying round eveytwhere) this place is magical
