About
A recently renovated hotel tucked in the heart of Montezuma: central but set back enough to dodge the weekend noise from Chico's Bar. The top-floor terrace, with hammocks and a communal kitchen, is where guests watch howler and capuchin monkeys and unwind. Reviewers rave about the comfortable beds and genuinely good sleep, working AC, and free 7am coffee with cookies. Bilingual staff help with tours, taxis and buses. Beach and waterfall are a short walk.

Hotel Tajalín has been recently painted and renovated. The rooms are clean and well kept. It has 3 floors. At the upper one there are hammocks and desks where you can read or work. Free coffee with cookies is served at 7 am. Elena and Leo are very kind, friendly and helpful. Being at the center of Montezuma it is a great option! Full recommendation!
I had an incredible experience at El Tajalin in Montezuma, CR. First and foremost, the location is amazing. The hotel is right in the heart of town, but is a little hidden so you’re not bothered with the noise that goes on during the weekend from Chico’s Bar. One of the reasons I chose El Tajalin was because I didn’t want to rent a quad or scooter to get around, which made things much more convenient and cost-efficient. The tide pools, the famous waterfall and the beaches are all in very close walking distance from the hotel. The top floor has a ton of hammocks and a communal eating area, which is great if you want to cook and watch the howler & capuchin monkeys swing from the trees. The top floor is also very quiet and a great place to relax and read a book after a day of exploring. Observing the monkeys daily was definitely one of the major highlights of my entire experience in Costa Rica. The air conditioning worked fantastic and my bed was very comfortable. Latin America typically has really firm & uncomfortable mattresses, but the mattress on my bed felt like a cloud. I often found myself sleeping in late because I slept THAT well. To be honest, I don’t remember the last time I had such a good night’s sleep. I had a very smooth check in with the host, Edgar. He was very professional, responsive and addressed any need I had immediately, whether it was day or night. I didn’t experience any issues during my stay, but he was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions I had about the area. I would definitely return to this hotel the next time I visit Montezuma. I visited a few hotels in the area prior to choosing El Tajalin, and I know I made the best choice. I’ve traveled all over the world and can truly say Montezuma is one of my favorite places on the planet. The town is not only abundant in natural beauty, but the genuine and welcoming kindness of the locals is unparalleled. I highly recommend visiting Montezuma and staying at El Tajalin. You definitely won’t be disappointed!
It's perfect for the genre and as described. More hotel than hostel, but that might be what you want. The staff is bilingual and will help you with everything you need to figure out in town, including tours, moto rentals, buses, taxis, etc. Rooms are simple but classy. Whomever built the hotel took pride in their work and things are built to last. There is a really cool 3rd floor area with hammocks and a kitchen. It is a quiet, chill place in the heart of the small town of Montezuma Beach. Would definitely recommend.
