Cothnejo-Fishy

I had high expectations for this place, especially since reservations are required and we booked two weeks in advance. The restaurant is located in the basement of Silvestre, and the space is extremely small, which already sets certain expectations for quality and service. On Fridays they advertise a promotion: 2x1 Bavaria beers + a gallo de picadillo + a shot of chiliguaro or guaro de nance. We ordered the promo and received the beers, but the rest of the items were not offered until I mentioned that I had seen them advertised on Instagram. Only then they agree to include them. Instead of the advertised picadillo, they served pozole, which was extremely salty. We asked for a Chifrijo, Ceviche ( not good ) and fries which honestly the sauce was good but the portion was very very small. Literally it was like 2 fries per person and we were 6. The chiliguaro is prepared over wood fire, giving it a strong smoky flavor. It is not the traditional chiliguaro and, in my opinion, not an improvement. Service was also disappointing. We repeatedly had to ask for everything — another beer, chili, and even the chiliguaro — multiple times. For such a small venue, attentiveness should be a priority, but that was not our experience. Additionally, the portion sizes are small considering the high prices. Overall, I do not recommend this place and will not be returning.

I went twice with my wife. The place is nice, but it is extremely expensive for what it offers. We had a bad experience: after we had already been seated and were consuming, we were asked to move because friends of the owner were going to be seated at our table. This was unacceptable—this should have been communicated to us from the beginning. It upset me a lot, so I clearly will never return. The food is good, but not nearly good enough to justify the prices.

Fine dining Cantina. Usually when you think of a Cantina in Costa Rica we are thrown back in time to a time where those lousy environments welcomed us to enjoy a beer along with a "Tapa" to go with it. This concept gets renewed now in spaces like Cothnejo-Fishy, where we are welcomed to enjoy a beer, a cocktail or a simple soda along with some nice food pairings. Now getting into it, the food is great. There are some things tho that you expect a certain way because recipes have lived forever in our households, but here they get the chef version of them. Most of the time for the good but sometimes they end up hitting a wall when compared to our expectations. Service is always great and fast, 5 stars in this regard. I highly recommend the "Sustancia de Res" and the Octopus dish, and can't stop eating the cassava and the "pejibaye" chips. Would not recommend the " Patacones" since for me they were off, same with the Avocados. Would order some cocktails to try new flavours if you like that, but they are not amazing at mixology.
