We’ve been visiting San José on and off over the past 2 months for fertility treatments, which means we’ve tried a lot of nearby cafes. Like, a lot. Moose stands out as one of the best so far. It was about a 20 minute walk for us through Sabana Park, and it was absolutely worth it. As much as I love a good typical Costa Rican breakfast, Moose had the extra things we didn’t realize we were missing. Pancakes, French toast, fresh pastries and bread, and a really solid omelette. Everything felt comforting, well made, and a little more indulgent in the best way. It was the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down and actually enjoy the meal instead of rushing through it. The service was friendly and patient, especially as we worked through our very imperfect but improving Spanish. That always goes a long way and made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. The coffee was great, but honestly, that almost goes without saying in San José at this point. Good coffee feels like the baseline here, and Moose definitely meets that standard. After breakfast, we highly recommend taking a walk through Parque Metropolitano La Sabana. It is right nearby and a great way to enjoy some green space and reset before heading back into the city. Moose is a fantastic breakfast and brunch option in Sabana and one we’ll absolutely be going back to. I pray before I eat. I prayed that the food here would be clean, delicious, and memorable. And I prayed the service would be friendly and hospitable. God heard me. The pancakes were the best pancakes I’ve had in a while—fluffy and moist. And I come from the birthplace of pancakes. The omelette with toast was hearty but could slightly more seasoning. The soursop (guanábana) juice was very abundant and refreshing. I was bracing myself for slow service but for the most part they were moderately efficient. Waited about 15 minutes for food. The waiter was nice and friendly.
