About
Fine dining inside a beautifully preserved old San José building, where the kitchen takes visible care with every plate. Diners rave about the blackened tomatoes with dill, the Marquis de Chocolate, and the Ravioli de la Casa in pumpkin sauce. Portions are refined and prices are high; a few guests found service slow or aloof, so it's a special-occasion splurge.

Incredibly good food. The kitchen takes *excellent* care of every portion of each dish. The blackened tomatoes with dill were a side and could have easily been the star of the show. Their Marquis de Chocolate was incredible. I would not have paired dark chocolate with gorgonzola, but they did and I love them for it.
Definitely more of a Fine dining establishment vibe, when we saw how highly rated it was we just went and were not dressed to impress. Even so the staff was giving us every courtesy and made sure everything was to our liking. The Fruit smoothie was great, the Ravioli de la Casa with the Pumpking sauce was delicious. And desert was amazing.
I’ve visited this place more than 15 times over the past 10 years, but it no longer amazes me. The service has become arrogant and slow, showing clear preference toward older local customers or foreign-language-speaking guests. I always order the same dishes, yet this time the portions were noticeably smaller. The tarte Tatin lacked proper caramelization and tasted bland—and unfortunately, the service matched that same lack of sweetness. With so many great restaurants in Costa Rica offering better quality and value, this one isn’t worth your time or money anymore. Perhaps stop by just for a drink if you want to admire the beautifully preserved old building—but that’s really all it has going for it now.
