About
A downtown San José trattoria near the National Museum turning out authentic Italian: homemade pasta (the spinach-and-ricotta ravioli gets rave after rave) and thin-crust pizza from a pizza oven right at the front. There's a long wine list, a private back room for groups, and staff who welcome English speakers warmly. The themed decor is on-the-nose and it runs a bit pricey, but the cooking backs it up.

This dinner was so delicious. The flavors were expertly balanced, creating a truly memorable culinary experience. We particularly enjoyed the authentic preparation of each dish. The ambiance provided a perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. The wait staff greeted us with friendly attitudes and had no promblem that we were English speakers. We highly recommend this Italian restaurant for anyone seeking exquisite Italian cuisine that is fast and friendly. Start with the Cesare Salad and minestrone soup (the best soup ever). The Salmon penne and the spinach and ricotta ravioli were to die for. The Aperal Spritz was a refreshing start to the experience.
As someone from Europe who’s been to Italy many times, this was a really fun experience! The food is genuinely good, and the waitstaff are very friendly and welcoming. The decoration is a bit on the nose and very themed, but it adds to the cozy atmosphere.
Located near Museo Nacional de Costa Rica in downtown San José, Sapore Trattoria offers authentic Italian cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service. The dishes we tried were excellent, especially the pasta and thin-crust pizza. Notably, the restaurant has a pizza oven at the front, and the pasta is homemade, which is a significant plus. They also feature a private room at the back for larger parties and boast an extensive wine list. Some recommended dishes we enjoyed: 1. Insalata Cesare: Their take on Caesar salad with lettuce and chicken, served in a crispy Parmesan basket—fresh, crunchy, and tasty. 2. Spaghetti Neri con Gamberi: Homemade black squid ink spaghetti with jumbo shrimp, cherry tomatoes, and lemon zest. The portion is small, but the flavors are excellent and satisfying. 3. Lasagna Bolognese: A small but flavorful serving with layers of ground beef and pork in Bolognese sauce topped with cheese. 4. Capricciosa Pizza: Thin-crust pizza topped with artichokes, mushrooms, cooked ham, and black olives—an excellent choice, offering a flavorful and satisfying dish to share.
