About
A clean, modern hotel in a quiet, safe Uvita neighborhood, about a twenty-minute walk from the beach, that families and couples return to. Mornings mean a good, plentiful breakfast — the gallo pinto gets special mention — beside a well-kept pool with hummingbirds darting past. Staff are warm and helpful, beds are comfortable, laundry is fast and cheap, and guests call it strong value; note a few rooms lack windows.

We stayed at Ballena Rey Hotel from December 14–18 in Unit 9 while traveling from Canada to do some scuba diving in Uvita, and we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. Housekeeping came every day to clean the room and provide fresh towels, which we really appreciated after long days of diving. The hotel is located in a safe and quiet neighbourhood, a 20 min walk to the beach. The property itself has a peaceful atmosphere and was never noisy. Our unit was on the ground floor beside the pool and restaurant area, but noise was never an issue. By the time we went to bed around 9 p.m., everything was calm and quiet. The bed and pillows were also very comfortable to sleep in which makes a huge difference. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming. The daytime manager at the front desk (we unfortunately can’t remember his name) truly stood out. He went above and beyond to help us with any requests, always greeted us with a warm smile, and genuinely cared about how our day was going. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Uvita!
Wow. Such a beautiful hotel. Kids enjoyed the pool with hummingbirds whooshing by, while we had breakfast a few meters away. Fast, cheap and good laundry service. Super friendly staff. The breakfast was simple, but the gallo pinto was one of the tastiest we've had in our 3.5 week trip in Costa Rica! If you're near, Ballena Rey is a really good value choice. Rooms were big, clean and comfy too. We really enjoyed our stay there after a few days of more basic places in Drake Bay and Corcovado. This felt like a luxurious resort, a small gem.
Very nice appartmens, but no windows in some rooms e.g. Bed- or bathrooms. Appartments well equiped. Nice Pool. Very good Service, super friendly staff. Great breakfast. Location close to national Park.
