About
A week-long surf-and-yoga camp built on four pillars — surfing, yoga, community, and nature immersion — that regulars describe as intentional without being rigid. Instructor Dennis, who teaches bilingually and is great with kids, comes up repeatedly, as does the authentic food made on-site. It sits in residential Bahía Ballena, a 10–15 minute walk from the beach (rides provided), with fans rather than AC — come for the surf, the yoga, and the community, not a beachfront resort.

We did a 2-day Surf Clinic (We highly recommend Dennis if available) who directed the course in both English and Spanish) as our little group was mixed. The instruction was both really clear and detailed and the adaptability of our instructor was really appreciated as we had a 5-year old on board! Really friendly and professional from start to finish and everyone managed to catch their first wave and LOVED it! Fun for all the family and a great experience all round... photos & videos to follow. Peace, plants & pura vida
I recommend Bodhi Surf & Yoga whole heartedly and I want to share why. In Costa Rica, the common refrain - as greeting, conversation closer, or affirmation, among other things - is “Pura Vida”. For those unfamiliar, that translates roughly to Pure Life. And that is what you will find through Bodhi. I mean that to say that basically, the part of my mind that is analytical, process-oriented, and tired from professional and personal effort - a necessary part of living in today’s day and age, and a part that deserved a well earned break - was able to take a nap for my entire stay at Bodhi. Instead, I was able to live in the moment due to the experiences at atmosphere Bodhi facilitated. I could spend my energy on learning surf theory, paddling the waves, flowing in yoga, seeing a Coral Restoration lab, or just simply reading or writing in a hammock. Bodhi provides enough structure to feel directive, and more to opt-in if you want, and a ton of space for you to choose your own adventure. Furthermore, Bodhi’s pillars of surf, yoga, community integration, and nature immersion feel authentic and unforced. I saw a pair of toucans after Sivasana one day at yoga; I learned about the reciprocity of Bodhi and the Uvita community in both environment and shared projects. The staff are kind, smart, funny, engaging, and present - they’re on your team for the whole of the stay. The fellow visitors are (in my experience) - curious, open, excited, and held many shared values. If you’re looking to learn to surf, to spend a week in CR in an intentional and also freeing environment… head to Bodhi. It’s a unique experience, and I hope to return sooner rather than later.
I had such an incredible time during my surf lesson with Dennis and Gretchen! It was the perfect mix of fun, education, and encouragement. They broke everything down in a way that made it easy to understand, even for a beginner, and created such a positive, supportive atmosphere. I felt challenged but never overwhelmed. By the end of the lesson, I was not only standing up on the board but feeling genuinely confident in the water. Dennis and Gretchen are amazing instructors, and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to learn in a way that feels both empowering and exciting!
