Surf lessons taught by Max and his crew at Playa Chamán, booked from their office near the whale-tail entrance to Marino Ballena National Park. First-timers credit Max with patient, safety-focused coaching — reading the waves, plenty of time up on the board, snacks and fruit on the breaks — and note you can keep the boards to surf until sunset. Good-quality boards, with discounts if you rent for the week.

Our family had a great time with Max and his crew. We had the best lesson in Uvita with this official Tour Operator. We booked our surf lesson at the office from Amigos del Sol in town near the entrance to the Marino Ballena National Park (whale tail entrance), and we surfed in Playa Chaman. They own a surf stand as well in Playa Chaman next to the Park entrance. The boards were good quality and perfect size for beginners. We rented six boards for one week aftee the lesson and we got a great discount. We recommend Amigos del Sol 100%!
This was one of the coolest surf lesson i took, the instructor was so helpful giving adviced and pushing me to my limits as a 1st time surfer, its a 2.5h hours of surf and i succeeded to get up on the boards more than 8 times and surf the wave , now i can say im a surfer haha all because of these guys and the school. Also when you tired you can take some breaks and they will give you some snacks and fruits. Totally recommend everyone to go with them 🏄♂️ Pura vida costa rica and thank you so much for the team
Had a great surf lesson from Max with Amigos del Sol at Playa Chamal. He provided excellent instructions and emphasized safety. I appreciate that he helped guide us on how to read the waves, and he encouraged free-thinking application of skills followed by feedback. The boards were in great shape. 100% recommend to anyone looking for a fun, safe surf lesson!
