About
Chef Claudio and his wife run this Italian bistro in Agujitas, across from the boat station, and reviewers keep calling it some of the best food they ate in Costa Rica. Fresh pasta meets seafood and local flavors like maracuyá; the guacamole, truffle risotto, and mango colada get repeat mentions, and diners say the couple happily explains the menu and works around allergies. In the evening, fire and soft lighting turn the greenery-wrapped setting into something special. Open daily noon to 8pm, with reservations, vegetarian options, and a kids' menu.

If I could give Kalaluna Bistro more than five stars, I absolutely would. Claudio and his wife are truly incredible chefs, and this was without a doubt the best food we had in all of Costa Rica. The guacamole was quite possibly the best we’ve ever tasted: fresh, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. We enjoyed an outstanding truffle risotto and a beautifully prepared fish dish, both cooked to perfection. Claudio was so kind and welcoming, making the entire experience even more special. You can immediately tell he has dedicated years to perfecting his cuisine and carefully sourcing the highest quality ingredients from across Costa Rica and around the world. What makes it even more impressive is that this level of culinary excellence exists in such a remote place as Drake Bay, it’s completely unexpected and absolutely remarkable. Thank you for an unforgettable dining experience!
Hidden gem of Drake Bay! Claudio worked in many of the best restaurants around the world and decided to settle up in Costa Rica. In Kalaluna, him and his wife offer a beautiful Italian cuisine, with fresh pasta combined with seafood and local delicacies like maracuya. Cocktails are reaaally good too! This is a MUST go place if you visit Drake bay
We ate here twice during our stay in Drake Bay. Once for lunch and one time for dinner. Food was amazing both times. Very friendly people who don't mind explaining their delicious menu options. I also really recommend the mango colada, absolutely amazing!
