About
A secluded, self-catering lodge in the mountains near Corcovado, run by hosts Alexander and Frida, whom guests mention by name again and again. Expect howler monkeys at dawn, toucans off the balcony, and sightings of spider monkeys and even anteaters on the property, which runs on renewable energy. Rooms are clean with a natural, minimalist design, and there is AC, wifi, a pool, hiking trails, and a grill on the deck. You will want a proper 4x4 for the last couple of miles of rough road, and since it is self-catering, stock up at the big supermarket in Puerto Jiménez first. Guests also recommend booking Corcovado tours through the lodge; shuttle service to town and the airport is available.

What amazing experience we had at the Maze Lodge! Our hosts, Alexander and Frida were warm, welcoming, and attentive to everyone’s needs or wants! The house is spacious, clean, newly furnished and tastefully decorated with a well equipped kitchen and large deck for viewing wildlife and stargazing! The gardens, paths and pool are beautifully maintained! Daily housekeeping, laundry, and delivery services are available. Shuttle service is available to town and from the airport. There are hiking trails and waterfalls surrounding the property in the mountainous region of the beautiful Corcovado National Park. It’s well worth the trip to Maze Lodge for exploring the beautiful jungle life in mountains of the Osa peninsula in Costa Rica!
We planned to stay for two nights but ended up staying five. This place is absolutely worth the bumpy road that leads to it—a road that may furrow a few brows among guests. You just need to drive carefully; we managed fine with a 4x4 that had lower ground clearance. With a vehicle with bigger wheels and higher clearance, the road would be a breeze. The room was clean and fresh with a natural, minimalist design that we really appreciated. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom spacious enough. There's a lovely spot for workouts, which I enjoyed immensely—the views during my ashtanga sessions were stunning. And then there's the jungle, everywhere, which we absolutely loved: the embracing roars of howler monkeys, the whirring wings of hummingbirds, the toucans. I appreciated how secluded the place is, far from the buzzing world. Zayro, Alexander, and Frida were wonderful hosts—genuinely eager to take care of us and always ready to help. They also offer various tours, which Zayro is happy to arrange.
My partner and I have been staying in this magical place for two days now, and we are absolutely overwhelmed by the place and the authentic experience it offers. We have already seen an incredible number of rare animals — different species of monkeys, toucans, anteaters, and much more. I’m happy that we still have three more days to explore this magical place. I can only recommend this place to people who want to experience true wilderness up close, while also knowing that everything is run on renewable energy and a sustainable water supply. We will definitely be back.
