Puerto Jiménez is the Osa Peninsula's main town and the practical base for Corcovado: the guide offices, the pier and the airstrip are all here. Park entry requires a certified guide and a permit booked ahead — arrange both in town before you set out. You arrive by road off the Costanera (the last stretch is slow) or by small plane from San José; the colectivo truck to Matapalo and Carate leaves from the centre. It's a real working town with a bank, pharmacy and supermarkets — the last proper resupply before the jungle.
